New York contractors
1,877 contractor profiles · 250 with an active license on file.
HomeProFax lists 1,877 contractor profiles with New York business addresses; 250 show an active license on file. We have not yet integrated New York's own licensing sources, so these profiles come from other states' board records, the local license sources we hold, or our research sources — a profile without a license here is not evidence the contractor is unlicensed in New York.
Before you hire, read how to check a contractor before you hire and confirm the license with the issuing agency.
How contractor licensing works in New York
New York State does not license home improvement contractors. Licensing is local: New York City, Suffolk, Nassau, Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties and the City of Buffalo license home improvement contractors (NYS Department of State).
In New York City, home improvement contractors are licensed by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) for residential work over $200, while plumbing and purely electrical work are licensed separately (NYC DCWP). Master plumbers and electricians are licensed by the NYC Department of Buildings (NYC DOB).
What our count means: the 250 active-license figure counts only profiles we have matched to a license source we hold today (such as NYC DOB records); it does not mean the other New York profiles are unlicensed. Check DCWP or your county's consumer-affairs office for home improvement licenses.
