The Lafayette contractor picture

HomeProFax holds 318 contractor profiles with a Lafayette business address, the 37th most of any Colorado city in our records, based on state and city license records. City license lists add the non-state trades: Arvada (27), Aurora (11) and Thornton (11) list Lafayette-based contractors, which gives us 4 roofing licenses, 10 general contractor licenses and 4 HVAC/mechanical licenses. 48% of them show an active license on file, below the Colorado-wide figure of 54% for the profiles we hold.

The roster is mostly state-licensed trades: 208 electrical licenses (31 masters, 96 journeymen, 30 residential wiremen) and 86 plumbing licenses (20 masters, 44 journeymen), all from the DORA rosters. Board discipline: 11 Lafayette records have a DORA discipline flag (10 electrical, 1 plumbing). 8 belong to licenses that are still active, so a current license alone doesn't rule out past discipline.

Companies are a minority: 21 active electrical contractor and 8 active plumbing contractor registrations, against 228 individual tradespeople. The median first-license year is 1996. 163 records predate 2000, and 23 licenses were first issued in 2024 or later. We matched 5 Lafayette companies to Colorado Secretary of State filings: 3 in good standing and 2 delinquent or dissolved. A dissolved entity can't back a warranty, so check the status before you sign.

The busiest ZIP codes are 80026 (316), 80302 (1), 80023 (1), and 3 ZIPs are represented in total.

Permit history: 8 Lafayette-based contractors have 745 permits on file from City of Boulder and Denver open data, and at least 3 of the listed permits were issued in the last 12 months (latest 2026-10-06). Most permitted: Barnes Electrical Contracting, Inc. (444), Lightscape Electric (253), Well Grounded Electrical Services LLC (18). Common types: electrical permit (189), mechanical permit (18), plumbing permit (12). These are jobs these firms did in Boulder or Denver. Lafayette doesn't publish permits in a portal we cover yet, so no permits shown doesn't mean no permits pulled.

Permit data: City and County of Denver Open Data Catalog, licensed under CC BY 3.0. HomeProFax matched permits to licensed contractors by name; data modified from the original. Not endorsed by the City and County of Denver.

HomeProFax profiles with a Lafayette address, built from DORA electrical and plumbing rosters, the Aurora, Arvada and Thornton contractor license lists, Colorado Secretary of State filings and Boulder/Denver open permit data. Counts as of Oct 24, 2026.

Hail, roofs and your contract

Lafayette sits on the Front Range, in the heart of "Hail Alley." The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association says the region usually sees three or four catastrophic hailstorms a year, and the damaging season runs from mid-April to mid-September. After a storm, Colorado law lets you cancel an insurance-paid roofing contract within 72 hours of a written claim denial (C.R.S. 6-22-104), and a roofer may not offer to pay or waive your deductible (C.R.S. 6-22-105).
