Durango by the numbers

Our Colorado records put 491 contractors and tradespeople in Durango, most of them in ZIP 81301, which places the city 27th statewide, based on state and city license records. 48% of them show an active license on file, below the Colorado-wide figure of 54% for the profiles we hold. Because Colorado leaves roofing, general contracting and HVAC to cities, we also pull municipal license lists. Durango firms hold 5 licenses on them (Thornton (3) and Aurora (2)), among them 1 general contractor license and 1 HVAC/mechanical license.

The roster is mostly state-licensed trades: 325 electrical licenses (63 masters, 119 journeymen, 49 residential wiremen) and 164 plumbing licenses (60 masters, 46 journeymen), all from the DORA rosters. 17 profiles carry a state board discipline flag (10 electrical, 7 plumbing), and 10 of those licenses are still active. A flag can mean anything from a paperwork lapse to a serious finding, so read the board record behind it. Companies are a minority: 46 active electrical contractor and 32 active plumbing contractor registrations, against 344 individual tradespeople.

We matched 8 Durango companies to Colorado Secretary of State filings: 2 in good standing and 6 delinquent or dissolved. A dissolved entity can't back a warranty, so check the status before you sign. The median first-license year is 2000. 240 records predate 2000, and 30 licenses were first issued in 2024 or later. The busiest ZIP codes are 81301 (322), 81303 (112), 81302 (56), and 4 ZIPs are represented in total.
