Divide by the numbers

Only 80 contractors and tradespeople in our Colorado data give Divide as their address, based on state and city license records. Active licenses: 36 of 80 (45%). The statewide rate in our data is 54%.

State licensing boards are the main source here: we count 50 electrical licenses (11 masters, 21 journeymen, 1 residential wireman) and 29 plumbing licenses (9 masters, 10 journeymen) in Divide. 54 profiles are individual license holders rather than companies. The company on your contract should be one of the 6 active electrical or 4 active plumbing contractors, or a registered firm from a nearby city.

Experience runs deep: half of the licensed pros here were first licensed in 1999 or earlier, and 12 active licenses date from before 2000. 4 are new since 2024. None of the 80 Divide profiles carries a DORA discipline flag in the records we hold.

Licensing in Divide

Colorado licenses electricians and plumbers statewide through the DORA State Electrical Board and the DORA State Plumbing Board. General contractors, roofers and HVAC contractors are licensed, if at all, by the local city or county. We haven't verified Divide's local rules yet, so check with the building department before you hire. Most Divide ZIP codes in our data are in Teller County, so the city or Teller County building department is where to ask.

Storm season in Divide

Per the RMIIA, Colorado's Front Range gets the highest frequency of large hail in North America, with three or four storms a year causing at least $25 million in insured damage. If a roofer knocks on your door after hail, two state rules apply: you can rescind an insurance-funded roofing contract within 72 hours of a written denial (C.R.S. 6-22-104), and promising to cover your deductible is illegal (C.R.S. 6-22-105).
