Brighton contractors at a glance

The Brighton file in our Colorado data runs to 1,003 contractor profiles, 17th among all cities in the state, 282 of them with a lapsed license. Active licenses: 716 of 1,003 (71%). The statewide rate in our data is 54%.

286 Brighton business licenses sit on city lists (Aurora (115), Arvada (96) and Thornton (75)), the only public record for trades the state doesn't license. That includes 21 roofing licenses, 37 general contractor licenses and 32 HVAC/mechanical licenses. Electricians make up the biggest group, with 604 electrical licenses (75 masters, 346 journeymen, 54 residential wiremen) and 266 plumbing licenses (78 masters, 105 journeymen).

For electrical or plumbing jobs, the business you sign with needs a contractor registration. Brighton has 68 active electrical and 39 active plumbing registrations; the other 679 individual licenses belong to workers, not firms. Board discipline: 24 Brighton records have a DORA discipline flag (14 electrical, 10 plumbing). 19 belong to licenses that are still active, so a current license alone doesn't rule out past discipline.

The median first-license year is 2008. 272 records predate 2000, and 99 licenses were first issued in 2024 or later. We matched 18 Brighton companies to Colorado Secretary of State filings: 12 in good standing and 6 delinquent or dissolved. A dissolved entity can't back a warranty, so check the status before you sign. The busiest ZIP codes are 80601 (657), 80602 (204), 80603 (136), and 7 ZIPs are represented in total.

Permit history: 7 Brighton-based contractors have 49 permits on file from City of Boulder open data, and at least 7 of the listed permits were issued in the last 12 months (latest 2026-10-16). Most permitted: Juniper Mountain Electric LLC (35), Divine Lighting & Electric, LLC (5), Home Run Electric INC (2). Common types: electrical permit (44), mechanical permit (3), temporary event permit (1). These are jobs these firms did in Boulder or Denver. Brighton doesn't publish permits in a portal we cover yet, so no permits shown doesn't mean no permits pulled.

Hail, roofs and your contract

Brighton sits on the Front Range, in the heart of "Hail Alley." The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association says the region usually sees three or four catastrophic hailstorms a year, and the damaging season runs from mid-April to mid-September. Eight of the twelve costliest Colorado hailstorms on RMIIA's list were centered on the Denver metro, led by the May 8, 2017 storm at $2.3 billion in insured losses. After a storm, Colorado law lets you cancel an insurance-paid roofing contract within 72 hours of a written claim denial (C.R.S. 6-22-104), and a roofer may not offer to pay or waive your deductible (C.R.S. 6-22-105).
